Read This Before You Buy a Trotec Laser
If you're shopping for a Trotec laser for your small business, here's the honest version of what I learned as the person who signed the purchase order: the machine's base price is roughly 60–70% of what you'll actually spend in the first year. The rest hides in software, training, installation, ventilation, electrical work, materials testing, and service. The vendor who puts all of that on the table upfront—even when it makes their quote look higher—is the one who'll cost you less in the end.
That's how we ended up with a Trotec Speedy 100 in December 2023. Not because it was the cheapest quote. Because it was the most complete one.

When a Different Choice Is the Right One

If you're a hobbyist who makes things on weekends, a diode laser or a used CO2 machine might be the smart buy. You have time to experiment that a business doesn't, and a lower price will matter more than support depth. That's a legitimate trade-off.
If you're a high-volume manufacturer, the Speedy 100's work area—roughly 24 by 12 inches, though verify the current spec sheet—will likely be too small. We chose it because our products are small: earrings, tags, nameplates. A shop cutting large acrylic displays should look at the Speedy 300 or 400 instead.
And one last honesty note: Trotec's support treated us well in year one. We had a minor alignment issue and they responded fast, with a clear fix. But one year is not a durability study, and I won't pretend I can vouch for five years of daily production that I haven't lived through.
If I were buying again, the one thing I'd do differently is ask for material tests earlier. Trotec ran samples for us before we ordered, but I didn't even know that was an option until we were already deep in the process. Most reputable laser manufacturers will test your actual materials on their equipment. Ask on day one. It tells you more about real-world performance than any brochure.
