I manage production for a small fabrication shop. Also—and this matters—"premium" doesn't mean "most expensive." The Flexx we bought isn't Trotec's biggest system. It's not the most powerful Speedy they make. What made it premium was the fit: two laser wavelengths in one footprint, a support team we'd already seen in action, and a machine that matched the work we actually do. If your shop only etches wood, a single-source CO2 laser might serve you better than a hybrid ever could. The point isn't the brand, it's the fit.
The fourth mistake—the one that cost the most
Here's the real kicker: the fourth mistake wasn't a purchase. It was the absence of a process. We didn't have a formal equipment-buying workflow when I made those first three calls. No application review, no materials testing, no support check.
The third time we chose poorly, I created the checklist. Should've done it after the first time.
